Frequently asked questions

Answers match the in-app FAQ. Choose Personal or Business below.

Getting started

What is 7speed?

7speed is calling, SMS, chat, and Notes & Reminders. Personal (Home) and Business are separate apps: use Personal for Free, Pay as you go, or Home plans; use Business for team calling, IVR, and admin tools. A Personal account can’t sign in on Business, and vice versa.

Which Personal plan should I pick?

Free is unlimited in-app chat and voice with other 7speed users (no phone number). Pay as you go locks in a US number with prepaid usage. Home includes a number with unlimited US calling & text. Canada and other international calls and texts (inbound and outbound) use prepaid calling credit. Optional Add-ons Bundle is available on paid plans.

Where can I use the Home and Business web apps?

The Home and Business web apps are limited to countries 7speed serves (currently the United States). Mobile apps are listed in the US app stores.

How do I get a phone number?

After you choose Pay as you go or Home, open Pick your phone number, search by US area code, and claim one. That number is used for calls, texts, and voicemail. Free does not include a phone number. Number purchase may only be available from allowed countries. Keep your paid subscription renewing to keep that number — if it expires without renewal, the number returns to the 7speed pool.

What is E911 and why do I need an address?

US VoIP numbers need one registered street address for 911. Emergency responders use that address when you dial 911 from your 7speed number. Set it in Settings → E911 emergency address. You can edit it there anytime you move.

Calling

How do I make and receive calls?

Use the Calls tab to dial out. Incoming calls ring this app on your signed-in devices. Keep notifications enabled so you don’t miss rings.

How does call forwarding work?

With the Add-ons Bundle, open Settings → Number & call forwarding and enter another phone’s carrier number (not your 7speed number). Incoming calls then ring that phone as a normal call, showing your 7speed caller ID.

Where is voicemail?

Missed calls can go to Voicemail in the app. On Pay as you go, Home, and Business plans you can record a custom greeting in Settings → Voicemail greeting. Transcription is available with the Add-ons Bundle on Home, and is included on Business plans.

How do I record a custom voicemail greeting?

Open Settings → Voicemail greeting. Tap Record greeting, speak for up to 45 seconds, then Stop & save. Use Preview to hear it, Re-record to replace it, or Remove to return to the default prompt. Callers hear your greeting before the beep. Works in the mobile and web apps.

Text & chat

How do I send texts?

Plans with a 7speed number can open Text to message any phone number. Group text is supported for conversations with multiple recipients. On an incoming call, Decline hangs up only. Message opens quick replies that send a text and decline — nothing is texted unless you choose a reply.

What’s the difference between Chat and Text?

Chat is in-app messaging with other 7speed users (DMs and groups). Text goes to regular mobile numbers outside the app. Chat supports rich formatting (bold, colors, lists, drawings). Text stays plain text so carrier SMS can deliver it — the Format toolbar is hidden on Text.

How do I format a chat message?

In Chat, open Format in the composer to style text (bold, lists, colors) or add a drawing. Formatting is for Chat only. Text and SMS stay plain text. You can also send a formatted note into Chat with Send via chat from Notes & Reminders.

How do I forward a chat or text?

Open the message actions on a chat or text and choose Forward. The message is sent to the conversation you pick with a Forwarded label. Your original thread stays as it was.

Why don’t I see a contact’s profile photo?

On Personal (Home), if a number matches a contact saved on your phone and that contact has a photo, 7speed can show it in Calls, Contacts, Chat list, and Chat details (when Contacts access is allowed). An in-app profile photo always wins when the person has one. Web cannot read phone address-book photos.

How do I change a chat or text wallpaper?

Open a Chat or Text conversation and choose Wallpaper. The choice applies to that conversation only. Pick a preset (including Live options like Waterfall), None, or upload a custom photo. Your custom photo is stored once and can be reused on any thread.

How do I block spam?

Open Spam & Blocked from Settings (or the Spam screen) to manage blocked numbers, spam texts, and blocked chats.

Notes & Reminders

What are Notes & Reminders?

Notes & Reminders lets you save personal notes with optional timed reminders. Open it from the note icon in the app header (mobile and web). When a reminder fires, you get a push notification and a badge on the note icon until you open the note.

How do I create a note or set a reminder?

Open Notes & Reminders → New note. Add a title and write in the rich editor (formatting, colors, lists, and Draw for handwriting or sketches). Optionally set Reminder to a date and time, then Add note. Edit anytime from the note detail screen. Reminder is optional — leave it empty for a note with no alert.

Can I send a note in Chat?

Yes. Open a note and choose Send via chat. That opens a new Chat compose with your note’s title and formatted body so you can pick who to send it to. Recipients see the rich note in Chat; SMS cannot carry that formatting.

Are my notes private?

Notes are tied to your signed-in account and sync across your devices on that account. They are not shared with other users unless you send one via Chat.

Sign-in & security

How do I reset my password?

On sign-in, enter your email and choose Forgot password? We’ll email a reset link if an account exists for that address. Already signed in? Open Settings → Your profile and choose Send password reset email. Open the link, set a new password, then sign in again.

What password rules does 7speed require?

Passwords must be at least 12 characters and include uppercase, lowercase, a number, and a special character. They also must not contain your email username. You’ll see a strength meter when creating or resetting a password.

Why am I asked for a verification code when signing in?

If we don’t recognize this phone or browser, we email a 6-digit sign-in code. Enter it on Verify it’s you. Codes expire after about 10 minutes. Your first signed-in phone is remembered; a new phone asks for the code. On web, an unrecognized browser asks for the code too.

What does “Trust this device” mean on the web?

After your first successful sign-in on a new browser, you can trust the device. Trusted browsers stay recognized for 30 days and won’t sign you out for sitting idle. If you don’t trust it, the session is temporary and we sign you out after about an hour of inactivity.

What is App lock?

App lock adds a passcode (and optional biometrics) so others can’t open 7speed on your device. Turn it on or off under Settings → App lock.

Account & billing

Where do I manage my plan?

Settings → Plan & billing (or Billing) lets you change plans, add the Add-ons Bundle, and manage prepaid balance (Pay as you go) or international calling credit (Home) where applicable.

Will I lose my phone number if my subscription ends?

Yes — keep your paid subscription (Home or Pay as you go number lock-in) renewing if you want to keep your 7speed number. If the subscription is canceled and the paid period ends, or renewal payment fails and the subscription finally expires, your account moves to Free and that number returns to the 7speed pool for other users. Turn off auto-renew only when you are ready to give up the number. Manage renewals in Plan & billing (Stripe on web) or App Store / Google Play on mobile.

Why does 7speed ask to sync my contacts?

On 7speed Personal (Home), contact sync can upload Contact List names and numbers to 7speed servers so calling, text, caller ID, and seeing who uses 7speed work better. On iOS, the phone asks for Contacts access first; if you allow it, 7speed then asks whether to sync to the cloud (Continue) or keep contacts local (Not now). On Android, Accept starts cloud sync and then Android asks for Contacts access; Not now skips cloud sync but still shows the Android Contacts permission. Turn it on or off anytime in Settings → GDPR & privacy (or Privacy (GDPR) on web).

How do I export or delete my data?

Settings → GDPR & privacy (Privacy (GDPR) on web). Export downloads a JSON file of your account data. Account deletion permanently wipes your data (messages, calls, texts, voicemail, profile), cancels active subscriptions, and returns your 7speed number to our pool for other users. You must confirm your email. This cannot be undone.

What happens if I stop using 7speed?

If your account is inactive for 120 days, we permanently delete it under the same policy as a manual deletion (data wipe, subscription cancel, number returned to the 7speed pool). We send one email reminder about 30 days before inactivity deletion. Suspended or deactivated accounts that are not restored within 120 days are also deleted automatically.

Getting started

What is 7speed?

7speed is calling, SMS, chat, and Notes & Reminders. Personal (Home) and Business are separate apps: use Personal for Free, Pay as you go, or Home plans; use Business for team calling, IVR, and admin tools. A Business account can’t sign in on Personal, and vice versa.

Which Business plan should we pick?

Business Starter is for small teams (2–5 seats) with 1 company number, basic auto-attendant, and 1 ring group. Essentials adds full IVR, call queues, and chat AI helpers. Pro adds up to 3 company numbers (1 primary + 2 additional), chat search, guest channels, AI website chat widget, after-hours AI receptionist, analytics, recordings, and unified inbox. Org departments are included on every Business plan. All Business plans include unlimited US calling & business SMS (10DLC). Canada and other international use prepaid calling credit. Contact Center and Business Fax are optional add-ons.

Business pricing

Where can I use the Home and Business web apps?

The Home and Business web apps are limited to countries 7speed serves (currently the United States). Mobile apps are listed in the US app stores.

How do we get company phone numbers?

After you choose a Business plan, the owner picks a primary company number (search by US area code). Starter and Essentials include 1 company number. Business Pro includes up to 3: your primary line plus up to 2 additional numbers. On Pro, use Settings → Add another (or Pick your phone number) while you still have capacity under the plan. Assign additional numbers to departments in Admin → Departments so outbound caller ID and inbound IVR follow that team. Fax numbers from the Business Fax add-on are separate and do not count toward the company-number limit. Keep the subscription renewing to keep your numbers.

What is E911 and why do I need an address?

US VoIP numbers need one registered street address for 911. Emergency responders use that address when you dial 911 from your 7speed number. Set it in Settings → E911 emergency address. You can edit it there anytime you move.

Business features & admin

What is Phone system (PBX)?

Phone system lets owners and admins configure business hours, IVR (auto-attendant), ring groups, call queues, and desk phones. Open Phone system from the drawer (Pro includes fuller PBX tools; Starter has basic auto-attendant and one ring group). The Operator ring group (extension 0) is created by default for press-0 / no-input on the primary line and is the shared mailbox for texts to that number; additional numbers use their own 0 / Operator (or department) ring group for texts. Pair Phone system with Admin → Departments to group teammates, extension ranges, and additional numbers.

What are Departments?

Org departments are included on every Business plan (Starter, Essentials, and Pro). Open Admin → Departments to group teammates—for example Sales or Support. Creating a department also creates a private chat channel with the same name; only teammates assigned to that department are channel members (owners/admins can delete the channel without joining). You set an extension range and optionally assign a company phone number. On Business Pro, assign additional numbers to departments for per-line outbound caller ID and inbound IVR. Assign members from Users when inviting or editing teammates. Only the organization owner can delete a department.

How do additional numbers work on Business Pro?

Business Pro includes up to 3 company voice numbers: one primary and up to two additional. Claim extras from Settings while under the plan limit. Assign an additional number to a department in Admin → Departments: inbound calls on that number ring only that department’s members, and IVR default (0 / timeout) uses the department ring group. Teammates in that department place outbound calls with that number as caller ID—unless they also belong to a department using Primary, in which case Primary wins. The shared IVR welcome can list your primary and additional lines; callers who dial an additional number go to that line’s menu after the welcome. Texts to each company number go to that number’s 0 / Operator ring group (the department ring group when the number is assigned to a department; otherwise the Operator group for that line)—every teammate on that group receives the text.

How do I invite teammates and assign roles?

Owners and admins open Users (from Admin) and invite teammates. Add people one at a time with name, email, optional job title, departments, and role (User or Admin), or upload an Excel/CSV for several at once. Only the founding owner can assign the Owner role. Role changes, invites, and removals appear in Admin → Audit log.

What does the audit log show?

Owners and admins can open Admin → Audit log to see invites, joins, role changes, user removals, organization rename, and phone-system changes (settings, hours, IVR, ring groups, queues, SIP devices).

Can we rename the organization?

Yes. Organization owners can edit the company name from Admin. Renames are recorded in the audit log.

What’s the difference between Teammates and Business Contacts?

Teammates are people in your organization (with seats and roles). Business Contacts are external people you save for calling and texting. Both appear when you place calls or send texts; you can favorite people for quicker access.

What are AI settings and the after-hours receptionist?

Admin → AI settings controls where call-activity notes post (activity channel) and the FAQ Q&A the after-hours receptionist and website chat bot use — add detailed answers there and Save. After-hours AI receptionist is Business Pro only: when your Phone system hours say you’re closed, callers can speak to an FAQ/AI attendant instead of only hearing voicemail. PSTN call recaps appear on Calls; in-app voice/video recaps post in the chat where the call happened.

How do we add website chat to our site?

Business Pro only. In Business web → Admin → Web chat widget: enable the widget, set a welcome message, Save (this creates the Website visitors / GUEST channel), then Copy embed code and paste the script before the closing body tag on your website. Visitors chat from your site; messages appear for your team in Chat → Website visitors. You can also enable/disable and edit the welcome message from the mobile Admin screen; the embed snippet is copied from web Admin.

Where are meetings and inbox?

Meetings is video for your team (and guests on Pro)—schedule from Meetings, and invitees get email RSVP links, a calendar file (.ics), and a reminder about an hour before start. Unified Inbox is a Pro feature and is personal to each teammate: chat, huddles, and meetings they belong to, plus their own calls and voicemail (including ring groups they are in). Texts to a company number appear for members of that number’s 0 / Operator ring group. Open Meetings and Inbox from the Business app drawer when your plan includes them.

Who receives texts to our company number?

Inbound SMS/MMS to a company business number goes to that number’s 0 / Operator ring group—the same default group used for press 0 / no-input calls on that line (primary Operator for the main number; department ring group or line Operator for additional numbers). Every teammate on that group sees those texts in Text and Inbox. Add members in Phone system → Ring groups (or via the department). Other ring groups still receive their own calls and voicemail as configured; they do not get texts for a line unless they are on that line’s 0 / Operator group.

How does Business Fax work?

Business Fax is an optional add-on (500 or 1,000 pages/month) with a dedicated fax number and inbox. Fax numbers are separate from company voice numbers and do not count against your plan’s company-number limit. Owners/admins pick a fax number after the add-on is enabled.

What is the Contact Center add-on?

Contact Center is an optional add-on for Business Essentials or Pro. It uses the same per-seat list rate as Business Pro ($32/user/mo or $30 annual) but is billed separately (own Stripe price × agent seats), with a minimum of 4 seats (up to 500). Concurrent Agent Desktop logins are capped to the seats you purchase. It includes Agent Desktop (voice, chat, and SMS), Supervisor Console with a live wallboard plus listen/whisper/barge, QA Console, Call performance report, and outbound campaigns. First-period coupons can apply when enabled (same Business coupons as plans and Fax). Supervisor, QA, Call performance report, and Campaigns are Owners/Admins only.

What is Call performance report?

Call performance report (Contact Center add-on, Owner/Admin) shows agent attendance and quality over 1–180 days: available time, on-call, wrap-up, away, QA scores, attended rate, and trend wallboards. You can open a Console table of agents and share a summary to chat or email. It is separate from Business Pro analytics — it only appears when Contact Center is enabled.

What are Supervisor and QA wallboards?

With Contact Center, Supervisor and QA each have a Wallboard tab and a Console tab. Supervisor wallboard shows live active calls, waiting calls, agent states, and queue stats. QA wallboard shows review completion, average score, pending vs completed reviews, and score trends; Console is where you start, complete, or revisit scorecard reviews on recordings.

Account & billing

Where do we manage Business billing?

Organization owners manage seats, plan changes, add-ons (Contact Center, Fax), and calling credit under Billing / Plan & billing. Admins can help run the phone system but billing is owner-only.

Will we lose company numbers if the subscription ends?

Yes — keep the Business subscription renewing to keep company (and fax) numbers. If the paid period ends without renewal, numbers return to the 7speed pool. Manage renewals in Billing (Stripe on web) or App Store / Google Play on mobile.

How do I export or delete my data?
